Friday Five - random thoughts!

Smile, it's Friday! The #DawsonDental... - Dawson Dental Centres ...

Five random thoughts on things happening nowadays!

1) Missouri made national news...again!
So imagine my surprise (not really) when Missouri's Lake of the Ozarks made the news for all the major partying that took place over Memorial Day weekend.  If you know anything about the lake, this was to be expected.  Heck even TMZ covered it.  Honestly all I can say about it, it to each their own.  I've got friends who are complaining about all the cases and how worried they are and that people aren't wearing masks but they are out partying every night at establishments that have reopened like the people they are complaining about.

  2)  Working out
For the past 10 weeks we have been working out with our boot camp at our house.  They film the daily camp, or zoom it at random hours, and we can air it later or hop on zoom.  Its been great as its the one thing we've kept normal at our normal time of working out.  The county just announced that gyms can reopen on June 15th.  While this is great, I hope they continue what they've been doing because not everyone will be able to get a spot at the class times (they will be limited) and some people may not feel comfortable yet.  My doctor did say that she recommends going to a gym over a restaurant, which I totally see.  So we'll see what happens!
Fact: Working out without music is like having teeth pulled ...

3) The library is opening!!
I had 11 books checked out from the library when the quarantine started.  I finished those early on and because the library closed, they've been sitting in my spare bedroom.  They just opened the book drops on Tuesday to quarantine the books returned then next week you can get your holds by curbside.  I don't think you realize how excited I am!

4) Headed back to full time
I've enjoyed my 10 weeks of rotation from work.  I get one more week next week (week 11) then we all are back full time the following week unless something changes.  I'm grateful for my job taking the precautions that they did, and are doing as I wasn't sure if they would but we shall see how this all goes as we are considered essential.  I've also gotten so much done around my house its insane.  Every room, nook and cranny was gone through and stuff thrown out.  It makes me feel great!

5)  All lives matter
I've debated saying something about the death in Minneapolis because I just hate that people aren't allowed to believe their own beliefs.  I'm not going to say too much except that all lives matter.  This does not at all indicate which side I'm learning towards, just what I've observed.  I've seen the footage, I've seen the reports.  I do not agree at all with how the main cop handled it however I also don't agree that people now think they need to protest and burn up the city.  The stores that were ambushed had nothing to do with what happened.  We saw the same thing happen here in STL with the cases that have happened here.  In fact I heard there was protesting in downtown STL yesterday because of Minneapolis.  I also don't believe the theory out now that black cops should be called when its a black situation and white cops only when its a white situation or men for men, women for women.  Each race is afraid of the other race because of everything.  Its going to be a long process, as we've already seen and hopefully a work in progress.  Its heavy on the heart that's for sure!

...and those are my thoughts...

If I've offended anyone with the last thought, I apologize.  However I will never go back at you if you tell me how you feel because you're allowed to feel that way, and we all should be able to say things without being judged.  Just like with the upcoming election and our thoughts on Corona.  We all aren't going to agree so we'll have to agree to respect each other's thoughts and the way we wish the world to go.

Memorial Weekend 2020

last memorial day Memes & GIFs - Imgflip

Did everyone have a great Memorial Day weekend?

We did!

I worked Saturday morning but we grabbed some sammies afterwards and trekked down to Hawn State Park for the first time.  Luckily my sister was camping and had a campsite or we would have been turned away as the park was at capacity for day timers.  We had planned to hike Pickle Springs but ended up just relaxing at the campsite on the creek.  It was perfect!

Sunday we attending church on line before hitching up the bikes to ride a new to us trail in Chesterfield.  We rode 14 miles on the Monarch Chesterfield Levee trail from Top Golf and back.  It reminded us of Grant's Trail but less crowded.  Very flat and we really enjoyed it!

Monday was also a relaxer.  We are looking to landscape our backyard with rock so we stopped by a few places to check out their options (not many so if you're local, I need nursery suggestions) before borrowing a truck to pick up a screen door to be installed.  For whatever reason our sliding doors never had one but now we do.  We then grilled burgers and corn on the cob and relaxed with the storms.

Do anything fun for the holiday?

We have a Master's Graduate in our house!

"So proud of my Bear Grad" in maroon and white

Today was the original day that Keith was supposed to walk across the stage and receive his Masters in Educational Technology.  Its been a long 2 years that deserves a celebration.

Due to Covid-19, it was cancelled.

However this university is dedicated to its students and have invited Keith to walk in October the weekend of Homecoming in a special ceremony just for the spring grads.  He has happily accepted and will be in full regalia then.  The backup to this backup is December but fingers crossed this won't change.  He's kinda depressed about it all, as I know all people who are supposed to be graduating are but we can't do much about it except just celebrate no matter what.

Until then, congrats Keith.  This is well deserved!
