Whats Up Wednesday!

Holy cannoli, January is over Friday.

This 1st month of 2019 flew by fast.

1) What we are eating this week:
Sun - taquitos
Mon - orange chicken with rice
Tues - out
Wed - homemade nachos
Thurs - salad
Fri - hubby cooking
Sat - roasted chicken

2) What I'm reminiscing about:
January marked 12 years of being with this guy. Our married anniversary is in July but it's fun to keep track of the dating one too.

3) What I'm loving:
Honestly the cold weather Missouri is having only because it's going to do a 360 and get super hot in the summer and theres no middle ground here.

4) What we've been up to:
This past Saturday we went to the Danforth Center to learn what all can be made using Raspberry Pi, which is the hit in the tech world.  It's a fun STEM event.

5) What I'm dreading:
Nothing at the moment

6) What I'm working on:
I've made it to the end of May on my 2017 scrapbook. Yay!

7) What I'm excited about:
Our first vacation of the year in March!

8) what I'm watching/reading
I have a pile of books on my nightstand but haven't had time to read lately however just found out that the library now automatically renews so that could be dangerous.

9) What I'm listening to:
The Price is Right

10) What I'm wearing:
Anything warm with boots

11) What I'm doing this weekend:
Hosting K&J's Techie Hut Superbowl 3.0. Itll be a lot of fun!

12) What I'm looking forward to next month:
Feb doesn't have anything exciting at the moment except Valentines Day. So I guess love!

13) Anything else new?
Nope. It's been kinda slow and that's ok!

STL Snowpocalypse 1.0

Thursday night was calm, cool, collected and we brought home a win from the Blues while at the game...

only for Friday to bring St. Louis its first SNOWPOCALYPSE of 2019!

If you are from Missouri, you know that our weather is very unpredictable and if there is any threats everyone freaks out.  You can get 80 degrees in December to have negative degree days following.  No joke!  So on Thursday it was sunny but chilly and got colder as the night went on then on Friday it was gloomy.  Winter storm warnings started early that morning with a prediction of starting around 1pm.  They got that right...and it just kept falling...and falling.

Everything was closing early and I was scheduled at the bank until close at 6.  Then we got the call we'd be closing at 5.  My manager told us 2 ladies we could go at 3 and the boys would stay, which I didn't argue but I had to promise I'd text once home.  Deal!

Silly me had a birthday party I needed to attempt to go to for my niece that was 12 miles from my work.  I figured I'd head that way and if it was bad, I'd head home instead.  My sister was in the same boat.  I got 4 miles, the snow got worse, the pile ups and people getting stuck even worse and I said nope, I'm going home.

Boy am I glad I did.

My normal 15 min drive from that point to my house took me 2.5 hours (my sister's took 5 hrs and she only lives 5 miles from me). I did have to take side roads and whatnot to stay on flat ground (even with an SUV I didn't want to risk anything) and I was DONE once I got home.  I stuck a ruler in the snow that had already fallen on my deck and the above was my reading.  What a day!

I was scheduled to work Saturday with a warning that the bank might close.  It only does that on rare occasions.  By the time I went to bed around 11pm Friday night, it was worse out and the continuous coverage on the news wasn't sounding hopeful.  Banks have a federal rule that you cannot keep people from their money for more than 2-3 days so we had a feeling if the roads were drive-able we'd be there.  Luckily I got a phone call at 7am that I could go back to sleep...and you better believe I did!

Saturday we were snowed in.  We shoveled the driveway, made a snowman and played in the snow a bit before going back inside and getting stuff done.  Its amazing what you get done when you have the time, ha!

Sunday we finally were able to venture out.  Roads were much clearer than the days before and we needed to be out.  I took one last deck reading of the snow and 9 inches is what we got:

They are saying more is coming this weekend.  I get a 3 day weekend this weekend with it being my Saturday off, and Monday is a bank holiday so I say bring it on!

How was your weekend?!?! :)

Let's Look Wednesday!

2 of my favorite bloggers (Erika & Shay, who are hosts of the monthly What's Up Wednesday) are doing another once a month link up and I'm excited about it.

January: the coziest spot in your house

By far the coziest spot in my house is the front piano room.

When we bought this house 3 years ago, we weren't sure how we were going to decorate the room so the sellers offered to leave any pieces of furniture we wished to have (they were downsizing to a 500 square foot casita and didn't want any of it) so they left this for us:

We added the piano, the pictures, rearranged everything (long table on side of wall not in picture) and our final outcome is one of my favorite places to cozy up and read a book.  Hubby has even taken to the room and will relax with me.

I think I love it also because its not colors I would have picked normally for furniture but now I can't imagine not having any of it.

What is the coziest spot in your house?

December books!

Happy  New Year everyone...and happy Show Us your Books day!

I actually had time in December to read a lot and I tried to focus on Christmas stories but didn't get to read all the ones I wanted so some of those have gone into January as well.  Technically in Missouri we have snow until March so why not?!?

I could not put this book down.  It grabbed me in all sorts of directions.  I do love a good Nicholas Sparks read and this very well is the one at the moment.

This was an interesting read.  Took me a bit to get started but once I was started I couldn't wait to see what happened.  This is book 1 of what looks to be a series.

This is a collection of 4 stories by 4 different authors all with the theme of unexpected love showing up in someone's life.  I am real life friends with Nicole Helm and its interesting to see how an everyday someone has made it in the writer's world.

I wasn't a huge fan of this book but I always try to finish something I started.  I'm not a product of divorce so I can't speak from experience but when divorced parents, with their new sig others, try to co-habitate for a kid on a holiday, things aren't going to go as well as expected.  It just wasn't my cup of tea.

I'm not usually a fan of what this book ends up being about (don't want to give it away) but I was hooked in this book because it was good.  I couldn't put it down.  It tugs at your strings and makes you think.

This book centers around family.  How people become family and how its good to take a break once in awhile.  I enjoyed it and already have the next few in its series requested at the library.
